Maajaam is announcing an open call Wild Space to find an architectural design for the Wild Bits exhibition information point and recreation area.

We are looking for a creative solution that would provide an enjoyable leisure area for the visitors, and would also give them a unique spatial experience and would relate to the exhibition’s technological viewpoint. Team of up to 4 people can apply and propose the design they want to build during the residency.

Residency dates: 22 April - 12 May 2024
Deadline: 21 January 2024

At the end of last year a traditional annual exhibition of Tartu art was opened in the Tartu Art House. During the opening, the winner of this year’s Ado Vabbe art award was announced. This time Maajaam founder and artist Timo Toots received the award! Congrats, Timo!

Timo takes part of the exhibition with his new work titled “SOS”. We recommend visiting the exhibition and checking out art that was made in Tartu during the previous year.

Annual exhibition in Tartu Art House is open until 28th of January 2024.

Maajaam was happy to host another Magic Carpets art residency “Celestial Bodies”, curated by Ann Mirjam Vaikla, that is part of the Tartu 2024 European Capital of Culture’s programme. This time four artists Eglė Šimėnaitė, Juss Heinsalu, Marit Mihklepp and Piibe Kolka were working for three weeks in Maajaam and Tartu Observatory in Tõravere. The residency was focused on the dialogue between the artists and the space centre’s scientists – and how that dialogue influenced artists’ creative work. In parallel artists-in-residency were researching folklore connected to astronomy that used to be an important part of the old Estonians way of living.
