We opened Maajaam’s new residency house officially last month and it’s been working on full power since then. We are in the middle of our second Wild Bits production camp now. The participating artists are Anna Tamm & Vinzenz Leutenegger, Greg Orrom Swan, Jeanne Harignordoquy and Uģis Albiņš. There is a third camp coming in August. But meanwhile, we are going to take our satellite exhibition to inspiring and wild place called Savvaļa (Latvian for ‘savage’). You can come and visit Maajaam during Open Farm Day or look for us in the Latvian wilderness!

Maajaam opens its doors for two days on Open Farm Day and we’re welcoming everyone to the farm of technological art! You can peek into the studio, see the tools used for making technological art, visit the newly opened residency house and trolley workshop, sip coffee on Maajaam terrace and cuddle a pony. Wild Bits residency camp artists Anna Tamm & Vinzenz Leutenegger, Jeanne Harignordoquy and Uģis Albiņš are present and show their artworks that are in the progress. On Sunday our resident artist Jeanne Harignordoquy is leading a kite making workshop.

This summer our residency and exhibition project Wild Bits is joining forces with Latvian open-air art park Savvaļa. We are taking the Wild Bits satellite exhibition to Latvian wilderness. Savvaļa is a place amidst wild, untouched nature, an open-air exhibition and series of events, initiated by the Latvian artist Andris Eglītis in 2020.

Wild Bits three installations by artists Anna Tamm & Vinzenz Leutenegger, Jeanne Harignordoquy and Uģis Albiņš will arrive to Savvaļa middle of July and they will stay there until the end of summer.

Savvaļa & Wild Bits are having a special programme with a curatorial tour, discussions, sauna session and a possibility for non-curated wandering in Savvaļa art park on Sunday, 6th of August. You are very welcome to join!

There is an art bus from Tartu going to Savvaļa on 6th of August.
Bus trip is organized by the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024.

Eugenio Marini from Rome arrived in Maajaam already in June and is staying for summer to help with the Wild Bits residency and to work on his coming projects. With a background in sculpture he is currently studying forestry and resides alternately in Estonia, Greece and Italy. Eugenio’s skills vary from building sheep fences to making great vegetarian dishes. His helping hand is being much appreciated by the Maajaam team and artists!

Eugenio’s own work is currently on display in a group exhibition “Through fog and stones” that is open until the 30th of July in Tartu Art House Monumental Gallery.
