installation / 2014

In his installation for MAAJAAM, artist and researcher Martin Reiche seeks to investigate the electromagnetic commons in Southern Estonia and the neighboring countries with a series of experimental antenna sculptures built on-site. The findings of these investigations will be exhibited through logbooks, maps, videos and the antenna sculptures themselves.

During the process of the residency, antennas are designed and built, extensive research on the high frequency range of the surrounding territory is conducted and the findings are reproduced in a logbook which will be made public in a performance during the exhibition.

The work Kilohertz reflects on the aesthetics of invisible communication infrastructure and asks questions about the politics behind the commons that this technology creates while emphasizing the current and historical role of automated senders (such as radio beacons) in this invisible spectrum.
